This is a 947 pixel wide crop from the 6,000 pixel width of a near 1:1 shot, which all means this is about 4 mm wide of life size stuff.

I don't know what 1:1 is. Natural sunlight. It's not pepperonis or nail heads. Not everyone is going to know this.

1:1 would be 1mm of subject = 1mm of image. So, if using a sensor that is 23.2mm wide (Nikon DX), the image captured would be 23.2mm of the actual subject.

So, if this were 1:1 from a DX sensor, then the small round objects would be slightly larger than 1mm.

It is the reproduction ratio which all lenses have and is a measure of how close they focus. Mostly only see it mentioned with macros.

I think your mystery has us bewildered.

I knew I knew it. It had a familiar look. But been probably 30 years since seeing smokeless, other than as it followed the projectile(s) out the barrel. Good one.
