Osage orange. Aka bodark

You got it. Named after the Osage Indians in the region. We call them hedge apples, and I just learned today it is because they were planted in rows and would grow so thick they could be used for fencing. Stopped being used as such with the advent of barbed wire.

@Eyelight, don't have anything so someone else is welcome to post one.
As to the Osage, we cut the tree/bush for fence posts, but..... Don't let them season before using them. They would get harder than woodpecker lips when aged and a fence steeple could not be driven into them. Great long lasting posts though. That was SE Oklahoma area. Oh, and the thorns! Yuk. And the sticky white juice from the apple.... Messy. I did find a lone tree by a dirt tank in southern AZ once. No clue where it came from.
