Looking for a new tripod

I have placed this post on another forum already because i need advice about tripods available in the UK and i notice loads of the gear on this forum is American sourced only.if there are any recommendations for any uk sourced tripods i would appreciate it.

At the moment ime still using an original Benbo but i think the time has come to change,the only ones local to me i can view are manfrotto so i have no idea of the quality of other makes.Presently i am using a sigma 120-400 on a gimbal head,the hope is it will be replaced soon with the Tamron 150-600 and would like a working height of about 150cm without the center column.
Budget for the legs only, well i would like change from £200 and have no idea how good carbon fiber is so any help would be appreciated.

200 pounds = 325 dollars 150 cm = 60 inches legs come in many different support weights. what weight do you thing you will need? maximum weight of legs you would be comfortable with? B & H HAS A GOOD SELECTOR CHART WHICH YOU CAN ENTER DIFFERENT PARAMETERS.

You can't go wrong with a Manfrotto. There is a new 055 series coming out that will have the same improvements that the new 190 series has over the previous version (greater weight capacity, more rigid, different leg locks and center column).

Not sure but the lens is just under 2kg so around 5 or 6kg max load should give good support,was really just asking for quality reports on different makes and if carbon is any good

The 055 is under consideration with a max load of 7kg its well in

I just got one of the Manfrotto 055XPROB tripods and it has surpassed my expectations. It's VERY well put together and the specs say it's load rated for 7KG.

I topped it with a Three Legged Thing Airhed II ball head and the combo is totally rocking my universe.

Another owner of the 055XPROB. The thing is built like a tank. I put a Vanguard SBH-250 Ball head on mine. Loving this thing. It is a shame I didn't get one sooner.

As i say a definite contender i think its just a little short of the ideal height but workable

Have bought the Manfrotto 055 xb its the one without the facility to use the centre column horizontally,i will only use it for birding and have that facility on the Benbo.

I am 6'5" and have some quite heavy kit. I now have two tripods - a heavy, solid one for everyday use and a more lightweight one for travel. So far I have only ever used the former. I also have a monopod which is always with me in my rucksack. I don't know what is important to you in a tripod/head but I wanted sturdiness and large and small movement to track things easily as they move. I also didn't want to have to bend.

My main tripod is a Velbon DV-6000 with a Manfrotto 410 head. My lightweight rig is a hama Traveller Compact Pro with a ball-mounted head included. There is a hook on the centre pole to allow me to hang heavy objects to make it sturdier. From memory I believe it is also reversibly for macro shots. The monopod is a Velbon ultra stick L50. I selected these three from online reviews on Amazon (latter two) and testing (the former) in my local camera shop.
