Looking at investing in a flash.

I'm looking at investing in a flash (Nothing to expensive to start with) I have no experience with using a flash and thus would like one that will work with the light meter built into the camera. I own a d3100 (if you need to know) I would like this to be usable as a slave in the future when I learn more and want to upgrade.

Any ideas of what to buy?

The Yongnuo flashes are excellent. Not just "good for what you pay", they're excellent flashes in my experience. Period. If you're on a budget they're your best bet, IMO, at a third the cost of a comparable Nikon-branded unit.
