Lightroom question

I have 2 computers. a desktop that is my main editing station. I also have a laptop that I use for travel. I have Photoshop CC and Lightroom installed on both.

While traveling I download all my SD cards from the day onto the Laptop. Can I import them in Lightroom using my standard file renaming system to my laptop and then when I get home import them or move them over to the Desktop and the Lightroom catalog there?

I guess if you network you computers you can get LR to look at where LR Laptop is keeping the files and import them. But I think if you import a new catalogue only the laptop files will be viewable while in that catalogue. This is why all my stuff goes on via my NAS. I import my stuff to my laptops via drag and drop basically and then transfer to my NAS or external HDD which then gets imported via my home mac into my current catalogue.

All the computers in the house are networked so that is not problem. I don't want additional catalogs so I will have to see it I can import and move the photos into the existing Desktop catalog. I may play with that tomorrow. Also wondering if doing that would maintain the keywords. So much easier to remember details the same day you shoot something.

Don what you want to do is Export as Catalog from your laptop and then Import from Another Catalog on your desktop. This is exactly what I do. Check out the videos in this thread for a couple ideas. PM if you want more info.

I have been trialling using an external editing company. I send them Catalogue A with images as smart previews, they edit and send me back as Catalogue A_Edited. In lightroom I open my Catalogue A and then import from external catalogue. I choose their Edited and import. Lightroom detects the duplicate images and overwrites all the changes to my Catalogue A.

Is that the scenario you are asking about? I think it is. If so - yes, it is possible. :)
