Lightroom Cloud vs Lightroom purchase

Afternoon all,

I feel that I am getting good with my camera now but would like to use Lightroom to make the pictures that little bit better. I have been looking at Adobe Lightroom as it seems to be the best option but cant decide between the cloud which I can get with Photoshop for £8.78 a month or just purchasing Lightroom outright from PCWorld for £59.99 (I am a student). Not sure what the pros and cons to both are. Any opionions and thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you rent it, you get fed updates as they occur. If you buy it, you get to buy the updates when they become available...

I've been renting, and it'll take me 20 years to match what I've paid in buying/upgrades for the two programs...

Unless you're ready to use Photoshop, I would buy Lightroom, learn it and get your cataloging straight. There are enough tools in version 5 that you could probably use that by itself and never really need anything else. I'm not sure when LR6 will be out, but they've said they'll be keeping Lightroom as a standalone product, and I suspect it'll be here in the next 6 months. At that point, see what they add and upgrade using the cloud offer and bring in Photoshop. Until then, your price on the package is well worth it, and you'll have paid more in 1/2 year renting. It's a great value for a single piece of software.

For something as trivial and inexpensive as software, I'll always buy a copy instead of subscribe to the Adobe cloud services myself.
