Lighting Question

I don't know if this belongs under the low light thread but do anyone have a suggestion on how to handle taking shots at an event when there is too much light shining in certain areas. I recently did a ceremony where they had windows around the building where there was a lot of sun shining in certain spots and that cause me to work extra hard to get the right shots in certain area. Maybe I need to upgrade from a D3200 or maybe there is a certain lens to help in those situations

Normally reflected light is polarized, so try using a polarizing filter. Rotate it till the highlights disappear/sober down. As a test I once used a polariser while shooting my car. By slowly rotating it while focusing at the wind screen, I could get rid of the glare and see right into the car at one angle and nothing at another.

If I understand correctly, the problem you're having is that when you shoot in one area (dark) and then to the next (bright) you are having difficulty dealing with how to handle the light intensity change. I have this problem shooting sports indoors. I handle this by using auto ISO, light metering using the middle setting (can't remember what it's called - not the pin point or the area, but the middle setting), and exposure compensation to dial it in. Finally, I shoot in raw so that I have the latitude to adjust.

I also shoot raw. Most of the building had a low light setting but there was a couple spots where the sun was shining through the window and shining on the subject I was trying to shoot

I have never been able to get the exposure spot on every time. So I rely moistly on the wide DR of the sensor, so as long as I am withing +1 and -4 EV of the correct exposure (over all) I can correct it in Post.
