I really like the idea, but the huge mass of blackness overpowers the light. My eye is being drawn from the light to the blackness.
Try the shot again with the light about a third of the way into from the left and a third down from the bottom. That should then keep the viewers eye drawn to the light.

The whole idea behind including the darkness was to make one notice the light. But, I guess there's too much of darkness....yes! May be a little cropping would do good. Thanks, anyways for your observation.

I am going to be different and say that it is a matter of viewer perspective. Gents ... you are following established rules here rather than looking at the emotive value of this photograph.
Where there is light... there is hope from the darkness. While you are both right; you have both not considered a deeper meaning here; a more ambigious intention.

I stand with you on this one Tashi, I think outside the box as well. Critique is valuable and should not be readily dismissed. But as we consider the rules, we must also be clear about the intention.
I would suggest in future, Tashi, that when you approach a subject like this, you should be clear about your intentions. Without that clarity, we only have the rules to fall back to.

Tashi:

First, congrats for taking the plunge into conceptual photography. Whenever you do something like this, you are not seeking to reproduce a scene, as is typical with most forms of photography. You are trying to convey a concept or idea, and that can be difficult, especially if you haven't made it obvious to the viewer.

You're onto something here...but not quite heading down the right path.

Yes, it's a light on the wall. But why? Right now that's all it is. You need to make it something more than just a light on the wall.
