It has been unseasonably warm here in NW FL (it is 68° here today and raining) and I was down by a drainage pond this past weekend. I noticed this gor-gee-us (!) Cottonmouth sunning itself on a concrete culvert. I grabbed the D700 and used my 180mm f/2.8 ED-AIS and cropped in tight and also ensuring I was keeping out of striking range! True to form, as soon as it saw me, it opened its mouth wide.
