Let me have it.

To me, the black straps are very distracting. This means my eyes won't stay put on her face. Even when I try to look at her eyes, which is where they should stick, they are called by the black straps. Anything that contrasts with the subject and is outside the point of interest (eyes with a portrait) should be subdued enough not to distract.

I agree 100 %. They are visually so strong (diagonal lines, very high contrast) that the straps are the only thing I see.

The later edits work much better and in those the model's eyes grab the attention they deserve.

The black straps do not bother me in the least. I agree that the highlights in the face are overly bright.

BTW, the model may not like the fact that you edited the black straps away, making it look like she might not have any clothes on. Just a thought.

Nice job on a quick candid capture!

I'm struggling with both crops, and maybe the shot is not as tight as presented, but here's my thoughts.

The original edit was too wide with unnecessary area of the back. The tighter crop is better, but when an eye is ran down the vertical center line of a photo it's the dominant eye that's generally used. Of course we all know we can break the rules, but I am struggling with the non-dominant eyes being on the center line making it feel too far to the right.

I don't know if the original photo has the working room or not, but I like a tighter crop with the dominant eye on the center line. As for the content and color... I very much like it.

That was my two cents and now I'm off to read another thread and wreak havoc. :)

I like the 2nd crop best. I think the straps are just fine and add to the photo. (Can't have folk assuming there are naked gals running about in the outback now can we? Or can we?)
Like the shot overall.

IMO , you got THE most important thing right. She looks comfortable , her expression appears genuine. The photo has a 'saucy' feel with all the curves,, again , very nice, but to balance that I think just a little crop which preserves the second strap would give her clothes to go with the hat. The area to the left of her face is really looking rather bright yellow and empty. Depending on what the result looks like doing a little recovery from raw and perhaps adding a little negative clarity , might give the pic a bit more gentle dreamy feel , like ones remembering good times. But I want to emphasize on the charming nature of the photo.
