hi guys, sorry new to the forum, so please tell me if I am posting in the wrong section

I currently have a D90 with several lenses. I am thinking of upgrading to a D3500 or D3200. Will my existing lenses fit these cameras?

Thanks in advance

They will fit. But will autofocus work? That is the correct question.

Although you are looking at much newer cameras with improved specs, the D90 in it's time was the "prosumer" body so it had extra features over the beginner line bodies, which is what the D3200 and D3500 are. A D90 has the autofocus motor in body to allow it to use older film-era AF lenses. The other bodies don't have the motor and need lenses that are newer that have the motor in lens. You likely are OK, motor in lens was a normal thing in 2009 when D90's were being sold. But I do not know what lenses you might have.

AF-S lenses will mount and auto focus. AF-S is for Auto Focus Silent so it has a focus motor built into the lens. Other brands use different designations.

Going from a D90 to a D3x00 or D5x00 really isn't an upgrade. As @BF Hammer mentioned, the only lenses that will auto focus are going to be AF-S lenses because the others lack the auto focus motor. Something in the D7x00 series would be the next step up from a D90. The D7x00 series allows the same types of lenses accepted by the D90.

so would the d7500 be a good choice of upgrade and my lenses will work with it?

Yes, your lenses will work with it. It uses the same sensor as the D500 but lacks some of the advanced features the D500 offers (i.e. faster buffering as well as other amenities). However, the D7500 only has 1 card slot. Your D90 only has 1 card slot, but the other D7x00 series have 2 card slots.

When Nikon made the D7500, it removed the D3x00 and D5x00 series from its lineup. The D7x00 series were more of a mid-level body. But once Nikon removed those two other series, that made the D7500 their entry level DSLR. So they removed some of the features the previous D7x00 series offered. That said ... since the D7500 shares the sensor with the D500, it has the best sensor of the Nikon DX DSLR bodies. So it should serve you very well!

The D7200 is also a great DX body with more amenities and 2 card slots, but the D7500 sensor is going to win between these two.

If you buy a D7X00 camera, be sure to also buy a new SD-card (or two). I guess that the SD card that you have today to your D90 is rather old and slow. Newer cards are faster which has a severe impact on the write speed. The buffer is not that big so it will fill up rather quickly if the SD card is unable to "swallow" the pictures fast enough.
