Lens Storage Project

For simple storage I think it works fine, though I'd be a little concerned that they would move around in those compartments. It looks like they might, unless the closing of the lid presses them firmly against the foam underneath and they don't move. Better than sitting out on a desk.

Hi Ted,

I love finding things like this case. At one time I did the same thing for some lighting gear and also found a Husky case at Home Depot. Very photographer friendly store. :)

I love what you did but have a question. What goes over the top to secure the lenses and keep them protected from the cover or any play between lens and cover?

I'm not even talking about transporting the lenses. Even something as simple as standing the case up or simple movements would benefit from a top covering of some sort. Are you using a single sheet of foam or is the inside of the top cover foam lined?

Nice idea, Ted. But I have a question - I see you've placed foam in with the lenses, is there enough room to have foam under the lenses and still be able to close the top? And if so, is there also enough room to have foam on the top, too and still be able to close the lid?

:( i thought it was a neat idea. However, some people seem to think you are storing eggs!

If only we were talking about eggs. At $3.00 a dozen, or 25 cents an egg, I wouldn't lose any sleep if I busted a few eggs but would be very disheartened if I busted a few lenses.

Sure, eggs are cheap and lenses are epensive. However Dave, i think Ted had the idea of simply storing his lenses in a case so that they would not collect dust. As he pointed out, he would not be transporting them. Rather, the case would most likely sit flat on a shelf somewhere. I can see why he pulled his original post.

Well, maybe you can help me understand because it seemed to me that we all liked the idea and were asking simple questions of its limitations. Why that that would result in pulling the post has me confused.

I don't get it, Ted.

No one is trying to give you a hard time or imply it's a bad idea. We're inquisitive and all think like photographers that want to protect our gear.

Why the knee jerk reaction?

My guess is because of the fact that it was such a simple idea to store lenses as to not collect dust, though it was a little over analyzed by some. That is my guess, but i can not speak for Ted. Yes, i thought is was a great idea and i don't think it needed to be somewhat scrutinized. Anyhow, things in emails or posts can come off in the wrong way. Lets not get into an arguement about it. Thanks

I don't think we were scrutinizing the idea at all. We were asking logical questions about the case and its ability to protect the contents. Seems rather obvious and logical to me.
