Lens Repair/diagnosis Sigma 10mm EX DC HSM f2.8- no Manual or AF focus

Hi guys,

dropped! D90, cracked casing but survived, yay! :)

However the Sigma 10mm EX DC HSM f2.8 is now not focusing at all. :(

The focus ring seems to have 'detached' from anything mechanical, in Manual focus the focus ring just floats going round and round - but when looking at the analogue ft/m meter it just stays on infinity.

In AF, you can hear the trying to AF; lens clicking in a steady pattern and again the analogue ft/m meter staying on infinity.

everything else seems to be in tact

Any ideas on what could have happened? has this happened to anyone before and how much was your repair bill, or quotes? - Estimates welcomed also.

At the moment I've mail hit some independent repairers and awaiting quotes. Just thought i'd pop on here and see if anyone else has experienced similar?

I will try to keep this thread updated with anything I find/happens so it may help someone else.

Tried trawling google for the answers but it is mainly either really basic 'af switch' or no internal focusing etc etc or HSM/ AFS motors need replacing..

This seems more like a little clip or something dis-engaged.

Many thanks,
Scott

Impact damage can be costly and may not be worth repairing in some cases. You can ask Sigma if they can still repair.

It most likely ripped a flex cable or bent one/some of the contacts for the focus motor if the focus ring detached. You are looking at a shop repair if the flex cable is torn. If it's a few contacts, or possibly even a lens/motor misalignment, then the repair should be a simple fix if you are confident in your repair skills.
