Lens Recommendations With My D5100

Hello all,
I am new to the forums but I need some suggestions for my D5100. Currently I have a 40mm f/2.8 along with an 18-105mm kit lens with a 55-200mm lens. Would you guys recommend selling the 18-105 and going with a higher quality 16-85mm, or perhaps selling both the 18-105 and 55-200 and buying an 18-300mm? As well would you suggest any other lens setups?
Thanks

Hi Jeremy - First of all, a warm welcome to the forum.
I like the 40mm as it is a good focal length for general photography and as a walk about lens.
Typically useful for street photography.
As for the other zoom lenses, it will depend on what type of pictures you usually take.
The 18 - 105mm is rather useful as it gives a perspective from wide to medium tele.
As regard to quality perhaps the 16-85mm would be better but then it is up to you whether it is that significant in your photography (BTW do you print it large).
In my opinion, getting an "all-in-one" zoom like 18-300mm is not a terribly good idea.
It might be convenient but it is also a slow lens (high f stops) and you may not find yourself using the full zoom range all the time you are out taking pictures.

The 40 and the 18-105 you should keep. Both great lens and good quality. What else you have is really dependent on what kind of photography you are into. The 55-200 is a good telephoto so not bad. Do you really need the reach of a 309mm?

I started with both the AF-S 18-55mm 3.5-5.6G VR DX AF-S 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF DX VR then found I never used the 55-200mm and so sold it and got myself the AF-S 50mm 1.8G MATE its GOOD , so the lens you want will depend a lot on what you enjoy shooting, my next lens will be either a wide angle or macro !!
