More properly it's called "Hightlight Protected Metering" and, as the name implies, it exposes for the highlights. This often leaves the rest of your shot looking under-exposed but that corrects easily in post and your highlights remain UN-blown out. w00t! While not infallible I'd wager it nails the exposure perfectly +90% of the time and the other 10% of the time, it's damn close.I didn't even know my camera had highlight metering. Jeesh i better get with the program!
It's my favorite metering mode on my D750.
