Download Nikon RAW editing software Capture NX-D. It's free at Nikon's website.
I was/am terrified of Photoshop. NX-D was easy for me to figure out and use. All the cool kids here will gently try to push beginners to drop jpeg and edit in RAW.
Scott and others suggested a decent flash. I agree.
The kit lens and the 55-200 are fair weather lenses. If the light gets bad or shooting indoors you need a decent flash.
A Yongnuo 568 or 685 is the best bang for the buck.
I'm taking a left turn on lenses. Take a look at the 85mm f1.8 FX prime.
It's a good all-around lens. Portrait, walkaround, bad or low light. It can do it all.
I prefer the 85mm to the 35mm because I don't like getting in a subject's face with a short lens. I like to be back a bit. YMMV.
