Lens Dilemma

Willie I think you would really appreciate the Nikon 18-200 or the Tamron 18-270. Both are offered a great prices right now. I have one Tamron lens and really no complaints. I think it would do everything you are wanting it for and give you that extension of range you are looking for in one lens and allow you to enjoy your vacation more and pack a little lighter.

I just looked at the prices and they are still pretty high for the Nikon. That tamron or sigma would be great choices for me

I dont think you can go wrong with either one of those. Buy the best one your budget will allow. Sigma or Tamron. Where are you headed this vacation?

I'm thinking of buying a 50mm f1.8 and just bringing that and a 35mm.

Why not just bring your 17-50. With OS, it's almost equivalent to the 1.8 the other two lenses can offer. This way, you'd have more ease of crop and would not have to think about lens change while being on vacation. Unless your vacation is almost picture oriented, this is what I'd bring.

I only have an 18-50mm. I I could just use that but it's not good at all for a low light lens.

There is only 1-1/2 stop between 2.8 and 1.8. The Optical Stabilization your 17-50 has could easily compensate for that for "not moving too fast" pictures.

For me, being limited to 35 on the wide side would be a pain for landscape views, or fireworks...
