Lens Advice

I am a hobbyist/newbie -- I mainly just shoot family events, my car, and car shows for giggles. My mum purchased me a D90 for Christmas that I got last month with a Tamron 18-200 and Tamron Wide Angle lens; it was second-hand from a friend of hers--I'm not complaining, it's a nice cameraToday my 18-200 lens fell out of my backpack and broke; not really happy about that. So, I'm in search of a new lens and came across these two--was curious what you recommend? I've read some reviews--the cost point for both lenses is a non-issue; I don't mind spending that kind of money on the right lens. I'd like to practice and get better at shooting; I attend a lot of automobile things and it would be nice to capture some great shots. These are the two I'm looking at;Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II ZoomTamron 18-270MM F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZDThanks for any recommendations you might have.

If you want an all in one lens, then either will suffice, though my advice would be, see what range you use most and invest in maybe a duo of lenses.

Sounds like you need to invest in a camera bag first! :lemo:

Don't forget that the D90 has its own internal focus motor and will focus and work perfectly with any Nikon auto focus lens ever made. There are some really good older AF lenses to choose from.

Either one is OK for what they are, all around lenses that can cover many usages. But none is the best in respective different fields.

Hi Geswek Sorry for the late reply. I had the nikon 18-200 lens , not a bad lens. traded it for a tokina 12-24 f4 pro wide angle. If you like to shot car events, you might want to look at the new tokina 12-28 f4 pro. Good wide angle to get all the car in the shot and still useful at the long end. You can never go wrong with eather the 35mm !.8G or the 50mm 1.8G.

First, I am sorry that happened to your lens.

Among the two I highly recommend the Nikon. I have the old VR version and it was on my camera 80% of the time. That was before I started going for f/1.8 primes. This is the lens to have if your prefer versatility over low-light/indoor capabilities. This performs great in daylight and well-lit situations.

I don't want to complicate things but if you want to be financially smart you can go for an 18-55 Nikon lens. They are cheap, have a decent zoom range and are of good quality. Try to get the most out of it before spending more. MHO.

Good luck in your lens hunting.
