I have heard and read good things about these flashes, maybe someone here that uses them can chime in.

I've used one purely as a casual bounce flash for a couple of months on a D7000 with absolutely no problems. Very powerful, quick recycle and batteries (eneloop) seem to last a long time. I do grin every time I use it thinking about the cost of a Nikon unit.

My SB800 is over eight years old, I use it on a regular basis and if I recall it was about $400 so 400/8 equals $50 per year, well worth the investment and I'll be using it again on Thursday for some portrait work with an umbrella along with it's big brother SB910, cost effective is a relative thing. Used they sell for $250-300 on ebay, holding value well.

I do agree most any upper tier Nikon product is a good investment offering acceptable service life and resale though I wouldn't buy a D600 at any price.

I made the comment about price comparison with Nikon solely based on Travanian's response of Nikon being more investment than he cared to make at this time. I normally avoid buying or selling used electronics of speedlite nature so resale value has little meaning to me.

Some trivia regarding the Yongnuo 565, every review I read before purchasing stated it's physically a dead ringer for the Canon 580ex with almost all features of that unit. It was originally released only for Canon with the Nikon model following some months later. Lots of kudos for Yongnuo products on Canon and other general photography forums.

Hey Jake.....You said "used" the 150-500 ...Now that you have the D800 and don't use it so much, maybe I can "borrow" your Big Sig for a while? :)
