Learning Thermostats

I'm really into gadgets if you can't tell :)

I saw this thermostat over a year ago called The Nest, that automatically programs itself, checks the weather, allows you to adjust things in your house via a phone, and all kinds of other stuff. $250 was a little too much to justify some savings on the heating/cooling bill though.

I saw that Amazon had a gold box deal on it for $180 though! I'm thinking about getting it.

I have the RADIO THERMOSTAT » Welcome

It does not learn but it is fully programmable and I can do it all from my iPhone from anywhere. I love it. I do think it helps on cooling and heating costs. I have gas heat, water, and cooking. My highest bill for the last year has been $37, I have also replaces all my windows with dual pane and also re-insulated the attic and that really helped.

Yeah one of the first things I did to my house was replace the windows and insulate the attic more. Did the insulation myself (blown in). Man was that a pain!

I'd love one of those, but it'd be just another gadget that my IT geekyness would want to play around with too much :p

The nice thing about it is that when it is really cold in bed you can turn up the heat without getting out from under the warm blankets. My wife loves that feature the best.
