I can't find a "Post your Portraits Here" thread so I am going to post my portraits in their own thread.

First - one I took a few days ago.

I was really pleased with this photo but happy to hear comments.

I like the emotion of the face and the shot, but please drop the vignetting -- it cheapens image

Interesting point. Is this a photographic "no, no" or personal opinion?
I really enjoy learning these things. reminds me of my golfing days when I would point things out to people. How do you learn if no-one tells you?

It's just so overused -- every basic editing program has such to 'improve' family snaps. If the image is good, it doesn't need fancy fiddling or frames. Better to develop an eye for a good, interesting crop if needed.

This is just a fast crop (and forgive me, if I have overstepped), but it does -- for me -- emphasize the face and the human within without the need to gild the lily.

The first photo is a great subject, but I agree with wev, it needed to be cropped in closer on the face. That face just tells a story.

What I did not like in that photo is the white vignette. It takes a good photo with a story embedded in that face and makes it very amateurish for me. Your photo is better than what you did to it - the vignette. Don't take the critique too harsh. One of those things to know when to stop and leave the picture alone.

Lawrence, great job. These pictures speak to me. Vignette or not, I don't know, I still struggle with the art side of photography. I really like these.

Overall, you did good kid. I applaud your effort to learn something new. I took a portrait once, didn't care for it. But every new skill you can master will enhance your education. Keep on snappin.

Thanks Ron. I kind like doing natural portraits. Just snapping while the person is doing their thing without posing.

I you are going to use it have it just fade or darken instead of going all the way to white. Fade or soften gives you the same effect but not so stark.
