Lawrence's 365 for 2014

Yes the first shot but i think I would also use more negative space and also place the -thingies- more on one side.

Have you tried slow shutter? Maybe even some motion (from you/camera).

OK so this is a miss but I still like it.
I like the way the dog fits in (and he is in perfect step with the horse, I like the blur and man I like that bum!
I'll let you think about it while I go have dinner and then process some other photos.

There are 3 bums and I am not answering silly questions! ;)

I like those Lawrence! And yes, the bum is nice!

The grain does add to the candid shots, I think with the girls more because they are dressed for cold and the ISO and colours add to the cold feel.

Thanks Steve
The more I look at the girl shot the more I like it.
And this was our first sunny spring day. It was freezing.

Lawrence, in my opinion, the girl shot is not a miss. It's a hit you didn't realize you got. :)

Seriously man, it's brilliant. The motion, the blur, the way the dog is framed in the legs, and most certainly the bottom :D I'd maybe give black and white a try?

I moved back to Hamilton from the Coromandel today - that house sit came to an end as the lady of the house had a mild heart attack and they cancelled the rest of the trip.
I am back with my flat mate - the one with the nice eyes.
She has recently been in hospital and has a few flower arrangements around the house. They were the only options I had so here you go.
Please ignore the wilting petals.

In a bid to get a grip on candid street photography I went and sat in a food hall and had a cup of coffee while snapping a few unsuspecting members of the public.
I love the first subject but it could have been sharper.
The second guy wasn't even in my mind but I saw him right on the edge of a photo and love the look of his "what is that old guy up to?" look he was casting my way. So I cropped him and processed.
I even tried some "shooting from the hip" with disastrous results. Maybe a hip replacement is needed!
The overall lesson from today is that I have a lot to learn about:
Candid Street Photography
Aperture priority - I thought I knew it all
My camera's capabilities and functions - tonight's reading is the D5100 manual

You're right, the focus is ever so slightly off, but I think it's a truly great shot. I very much like the subject and composition, and the B&W makes it more dramatic I think. Nice work!

That leg shot is really good :-D

For the images before, are you adding white vignette? I am not really a fan of that, I tend to look to much to the corners because they are brighter.

Lacking motivation today and feeling like my photography is going backward!
So many great photographers around tells me I have so very much to learn.
And that is one of the 'faults' with a 365 - it doesn't take into account how much time you put in. For example today I have spent hours on photography but not taken many shots. Of course I have no idea how one could record this other than in the advances we make.
So with that little bit of negativity I present you only one shot today as I head off to adobe to learn more about processing.
A very colourful piano I came across in the street today.

Its not an artistically brilliant shot but I liked the colours.

Yeah....but look at how far you have come during the year. Even the best still have stuff to learn :D

I like the colours too Lawrence!
Don't be disheartened, we all get phases where we feel like we are getting no where and we have "plateaued". Personally I have recently realised that I really need to pay more attention to composition before taking the photo, and I find it hard.

I think your pictures are great & I enjoy looking at them - And I also like reading the narratives of how you got the shots and what you were up to that day.

Larence! That is a brilliant street photo! His expression, the way you can see his face, the body language. The composition is spot on as well. I like how you're rocking f/8 to keep stuff in focus and make focusing faster. Honestly, that is an awesome shot. I'm not as big on the editing, but that's just me. But the shot is there, and that is what matters. And what a shot it is! :)

You definitely shouldn't feel like you're going backwards after this.

The things that wasn't "constructed" or planned - it just was. So no skill on my part.
Here is the cleaner version for you with a bit of a crop to remove the guy on the left's hand.
