Thanks Guys.
Yes Scott we gave them a run for their money but … almost is not quite a cigar!
nzswift consider yourself lucky that you are so far away as I would definitely be bugging you for help! I was down there (Akaroa) for 6 months in the summer of 2011/12. Is it still shaking on a daily basis?

Things have been geologically quiet this year. Only one little 4.??? that I have felt. Poor Seddon has copped it instead!
I'd recommend a book Mastering the Nikon D5100 by Darryl Young (if he has written one yet). I bought the D600 one and helped me understand the workings of my camera heaps....

Yes he has written one. Just found it on Amazon. I wonder if I can get it locally.
I was watching videos on Youtube last night and I swear I am thick. I can't access half the things they work on in the menu and I think it is because my Mode Dial is on a different setting to the demonstrator. I am one of those people who need to be told everything, step by step from pick up the camera, switch it on, ensure that the mode dial is in, open the screen, engage live view etc. The good news is I only have to be shown once.
I'll get there.
I plan on trying a few shots today.
Thanks for the reference - appreciated.

I got mine from Whitcoulls online $45 odd dollars from memory with free shipping. Well worth it.
Don't know anything about the D5100 but you will have to be in P.S,A or M mode (not auto) if those are available to you...

Thanks for that. I will check Whitcoulls on Monday.
As much as I have tried I have no idea how to operate in anything but P,S, A or M. The other options totally baffle me.
Thanks for your input
