So it seems the new neighbor is getting really comfortable with me outside. So I watched him/her grab corn and then go sit in the V of the tree to eat it. They are funny little creatures.

So I am starting to realize that we may have multiple squirrels coming to the feeder. I looked at the previous pictures and there is a difference in the tails. This is really fun and I like that can now go outside and they have no fear. Even caught a cardinal that almost hit me in the head chasing a grasshopper in the backyard, so this was a quick shot and it actually came out in focus, well 1 of them did. The other needs to go into the almost thread.

We've been toying with the idea of putting a feeder up in the back yard, but have hesitated due to the volume of squirrels already coming into the yard, and the nocturnal "pets" that we've seen walking the fence. Still, if I could get that somewhere accessible by birds without attracting more four legged creatures, that might be a bonus!

It works really good and I had the same concerns. I was at my least favorite store ( Walmart ) and decided to pick one up, real cheap and has been a lot of fun. They will go through a cob per day but I usually only put one out every other day and will so till Winter and after their other food sources are gone.

Now where you get crazy is when you start talking about birds, man I have the itch again but do they go through the food and make a mess. I'm sure I will get one this weekend, kind of hard headed I guess.

Well I finally got a working hummingbird feeder up. The one I tried in the Spring leaked and is now a yard decoration. Anyway, set this up last weekend and have been trying to get them used to me. So pictures are not the best because this little guys are very tricky, but I love a challenge. I need to rework this feeder a bit to straighten things up, so sorry for the feeder lean.

Another hummer, these little guys are starting to get really comfortable with us so it may be time to get the camera closer and a different angle. This was the 70-200 naked ( meaning now TC )

Have you thought about setting up the camera on a tripod and using a remote to take the shot? That way the birds are less likely to be spooked and you can get even closer.

Oh yea, these are all on tripod and using my pocket wizards for shutter release. Just been slowly getting them used to the camera and been trying to figure out their normal fly by path, which the later is all over the place. This is the first year to successfully attract them so just being a little careful. Currently I am around 5-6 feet, so next time I plan to cut the distance in half and change the angle to get better light or might even try to add a flash.

Awesome! I wonder if there's a way to set it up in front of the feeder so you can get a face on shot of them.

Looking good Kevin! I was checking out a friend's feeder last weekend and got some ideas of my own that should provide some flexibility on camera angles.

Both he and you have the feeder mounted close to the house. Do you know if the hummingbirds would be more/less skittish if the feeder was hung in an open area rather than closer to the wall?

From what I read it needs to be in the shade. So I put it under our arbor for that reason. I am trying to keep the feeders in their own area as I have a bird feeder, squirrel feeder and a hummingbird feeder. Not sure how much of that matters but it seems to be working. I am going to move it to another post this week which should provide better angles so I can have a clean background, so keep that in mind when deciding on a location.

Also, we tried to get use one of those yard decoration humming bird feeders and it leaked after a day so I finally just bought a traditional feeder as they are proven.

Get a squirrel feeder while you are at it, its fun watching while waiting on the humming birds.

Just playing around with different settings and trying to get this dual monitor setup to look somewhat similar. Also tried some different LR tips. Haven't uploaded anything in a while, seems like all I am doing is working now and trying to learn new things with PP.

Well for those that know this reference, I am like the Jeffersons, moving on up. I got my sideline pass for High School football today, no more shooting from the stands. Also got my business cards this week. Bad picture, in a hurry to post.
