Yes, I remember reading a story about bear spray. When they opened up the big brown, they found the hiker was still holding his bear spray very tightly.

Never forget that Bears can Kill you, and I've heard it will hurt the entire time you're dying.
Of course don't let that keep you from continuing to post those great shots.
This reminds of that Mama bear and her three cubs who saw a man shooting pictures of them...you can google the pictures...they are the last three frames before he put the camera down and ran. Unfortunately they are the last three frames he ever made.

You better carry a big gun as Jeff has suggested otherwise you will just make them mad.
Reminds me of a joke;
Two hikers are out and stumble on a bear and the one guy starts to run and the other bends over to tie his shoe laces.

Thanks for all the concern! Nice to know people care. Just so you all know, I was no farther than 200 feet from my truck at any time. It was in a parks roadside pull off, and there were other people around me. I am an experienced outdoor person, and have TREMENDOUS respect for bears, cougars and all wildlife, and I am always careful. I will definitely continue with my wildlife photos, and do it cautiously. Loved all the comments and jokes
I read once that if one was going out in the woods, black bears would usually run away if they heard you coming, so make a lot of noise - some people carry whistles and bells. The article also said you could tell by the scat what type of bear had been in that location. Black bear scat usually had pieces of nuts or seeds while brown bears scat had pieces of whistles and bells.

I grew up in the city. Animals in the wild meant a stray cat or a lost dog. I have lived in Florida for the past 36 years and we have an abundance of birds that are pretty neat. An occasional alligator, lots of iguanas, and even an otter once in a while. Now, I spend half the year in Ohio. Squirrels and robins are fed regularly on my patio. I get to see deer pretty often. An otter ran in front of my car today (must have followed me up). Every sighting truly excites me. To have bears, and elk, and moose, and beavers, must be a real treat.
I come up through the forest at my house one time and surprised a big white tailed deer who was loafing off. He snorted and stomped the ground and I thought damn I am gonna die today! Seriously! LOL
Isn't it funny how the lowly mosquito has killed more people than all wars combined? You better respect mother nature or she will eat you...alive!

Nature in general has always fascinated me. I know deer can be very dangerous, and I am glad that you didn't get stomped! I hope to get a bear too, lol, SAFELY! and I am sure that I will, ....eventually lol
Nice shots Kim. Did you change your monitor calibration lately? Today's pics look a little on the red-majenta side to me.
