Keeping focus in video when set

I just shot a band video with my d3200 and although I set focus on the singer before starting to record, when he moved the camera focused on what was in the green (?) box that appeared in the viewfinder. I don't want that. I want the focus to remain as I set it. The exposure too.
I couldn't see how to do that. Can anyone assist?
I ended up shooting that scene with my iPhone because I can easily control exposure and lock focus with that.

Assuming you're using the stock lens, you could just set this switch to “M”, but the lens would be easily jostled out of focus, so I don't really recommend that.

Better, once you have the focus set as you want it, leave that switch in “A”, and then on your camera…

  • Push this button…

  • Go to this menu…

  • And select “MF”

That will set the camera to manual-focus mode. That will prevent the camera from trying to autofocus, and with the switch on the lens set to “A”, the focus will be locked where you set it.
