Just ordered D600

The D600 and 24-120 arrived yesterday. Not much time to test it yet, however it does seem a lot slower than the D300s to focus in very low light. Has anyone else found hat or is it likely I'm doing something wrong? I am aware of the lesser AF module in the D600 so that could explain if, although I thought the bigger sensor might gather more light and therefore compensate for that. I'll test it properly over the next week and see how it actually performs.

On the plus side, the IQ and exposure seem very good and IQ is the reason I got it.

It should be faster, especially in low light. The D7000 has the same focus arrangement albeit DX is very fast,at least mine is.

I've tried it again on various AF settings and it struggles in very dark low contrast situations even with 1.8 and 2.8 glass attached. The D300s just snaps in, in the same setting. If I attach my SB900 with the red focus light enabled it is very quick again. I will see if it's a problem in actual use, but it's ironic that the 300 is good at AF in low light but is noisy at high ISO and the D600 is the opposite.

Also, at 75 clicks in I have the dust problem. The D300 is 16000 clicks in and is like new!! I will see if it's ok after a couple of thousand.

I completely agree, without the AF assist, the D600 struggles in very low light. I shot a birthday event last weekend and it could not lock on AT ALL without the AF assist.
