Nice one, one of the best reasonably priced crop sensor Nikon's around, how and why did the D7100 die. My only regret was that I bought mine only a month before the D500 was announced but for what I shoot the D7200 does everything I require and more from a crop sensor DSLR.

After you have used it for a while Kevin, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on how big an upgrade it is over the D7100. Especially in regard to high iso in low light.

Not a huge upgrade Battery life is phenomenal compared to the D7100 and here's a shot at Iso 3200 with my normal PP

Frankly, unless you are very heavily into sports/action photography and need the large buffer and more shots per second, the D7200 is the equal or superior of the D500 for half the price. And yes, on paper, the D500 AF is better, but the D7200 is no slouch in this area.

I have been back and forth with this for a while now. I'm still getting the D500 in the future. I borrowed someone's cam last week and the AF is sick on that cam. Plus it feels great in my hands. (very important to me)
I will of course be renting one before I drop that kind of change.

Which camera did you borrow last week that you think has a sick AF?

Let me guess then. By sick you apparently mean neat, kool, great, slick! If that is the case, the AF on my D7200 is also "sick". but I would call it slick!

@Blacktop Pete, I think the D500 will be worth the money for the kind of photography you do. I agree that the autofocus is sick, and it really is noticeably faster and more accurate than on the D7200 in my experience. That is NOT to say that the D7200 doesn't have a great AF system. The D500 is just a step up. I also find the noise on D500 images is more easily corrected in post than on the D7200 files.

Pair that 200-500 lens of yours with the D500 and you have a match made in heaven. :)

I would still be a happy camper with my D7200, though. I would never talk that camera down, especially for the price!

Thanks Kevin. Looks like a good result there. Though a bit hard to tell how much better than the D7100, things like this can be a bit subjective.

I am contemplating a second camera body in the near future, I think I would like to have a DX plus an FX body to have the best of both worlds, just got to work out how I go about it. Options I can see are, D750 and keep the D7100, or D500 and try and sell or trade the D7100 for a D610. Decisions, decisions.
