Just got the camera back from repair

Maybe BT scratched it when he cleaned the sensor prior to sending it in. That said, Nikon scratched my D600 sensor during one of the times the shutter was replaced. They claimed I scratched it--showed them the very first shot I took after getting the camera back.

In any case, I'm glad they replaced yours while they had the camera so you didn't have to send it in again.

Very unlikely that air from a rocket blower would do that.

Oh...when you mentioned cleaning the sensor before sending it in for repair, I thought you meant a wet-cleaning. Sorry I misunderstood!

I usually try blowing it off first. If it doesn't do the trick, then I do a wet clean. I have not had to do one in a long time, and that was on the D7100 and only once.

Dolly is home safe and sound. Here is a list of repairs done by Nikon

RPL Shutter Mechanism

RPL Image Sensor

Adjust Image Color

Adjust A-White Balance

CKD Auto -Focus Operation

CLN CCD

General Check And Clean

I wonder why the Image Sensor needed replacing? Could it have been damaged by shutter debris?

A few of years ago my shutter went on a D7000 out of warranty. Sent it to Nikon £288 quote to replace shutter(agreed to this as the body was £800 at the time), next day new quote £588 as when they actually took it apart the broken shutter blade had scratched the cover to the sensor. My argument was that this is not the sensor but a cheap glass cover but the reply was they replace it as a complete sealed unit. £1000 paperweight which I posted photo's of reverse engineering after this.

That had to hurt.

What fault did it go in for?

Shutter failure.

On a side note. This site is very big with lots of users and lots and lots of posts. It is by luck, that I came across your post with your question.
It is best, that when you want to ask a certain poster something and you want that poster to see your question, is to mention that poster by name with an "@" symbol in front of the posters name..
Like this . @ssquiffy. This way the poster you are trying to reach will get a notification that he/she has been mentioned.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Cheers for the tip @Blacktop, I hope my d750 isn't going the same way. A few times now the shutter seems to have got stuck open when taking a shot, but on pressing the shutter button again it seems to right itself

I don't want to be a bearer of bad news, but that is how my problem started. It would do that for a while and slowly got worse. Usually it would do it when first turning on the camera after it's been off for a while, or overnight.

Yep, that's exactly what happens for me.....so roughly how much is it to be repaired....also mine is a grey import, so would have to through the company (Expedite Electricals) for warrenty

I have no idea. I still had 6 months left on my original 1 year Nikon warranty. Did you get any sort of warranty from the place you got your camera from?

Yes I got 3 yrs from Cotswold Cameras, and I've only had the camera 6 months so should be fine. I've already emailed them and they advised me to do a full reset to see if that helps but it didn't so I've emailed them back, just waiting for a reply

Mine does exactly the same, always when I first turn it on at beginning of the day, then it's fine.......although I did just do the 1/4000th test and it got stuck on the first shot and again seems fine now. Really annoying as reason I went for a grey was because I had my D90 from new and it literally never missed a beat so was sure I wouldn't have any warrenty issues!!!

Also Albert Lee is a very under rated guitar player.

Not by me! Saw him with Everly Brothers during tour in 80's - one of the best live electric guitar performances I've seen - and I have seen most of the guitar gods live. Killed it all night! Nancy Griffith was the opener..... What a show!
