Just a thought out loud.

Small rant sorry.
I have taken two courses in photography through the N.Y.I.P, the fundamentals and the pro course, not to become a professional photographer but to become better at what I love as a hobby. To me it is a little bothersome that people can not just enjoy what they love with out a name or a tag to it these days.

I have had many people say to " I don't know you tell me you are the professional" . I have hold my breath and count because in no way or form have I ever betrayed my self as a pro. Just because I took a course means nothing other than satisfaction of what I love. sure compliments are nice who doesn't love them.

I guess it drives me nuts that there is so many people that think just because you have a "fancy DSLR" in their eyes you are calling your self a professional photographer. My only question to that, how long was your studies or training if any and have you used and applied the information before you call your self a professional photographer and start charging people for your portraits on a professional level.

I see so many gorgeous and wonderful things from people out there that range from the amateur to the Pro and a certified Pro. Whom I love and wish I can create those amazing things on that level one day, but right now its all for fun.

I love photography and all it has to offer, but please remember just because I have fancy cameras only means I have a greater love for all kinds of beauty and the way my mind interpret what the eyes see. its not a competition of who's better than who or who has more training, or what style is more amazing. Be you not what you think every one wants you to be. its about who loves it just the same as the next person. My only other wish is that the people that surround me here at home wouldn't be so dramatic because a family member chose my style over theirs. I just wish that I could post in peace with out my subject getting back lash from the dramatic side.

For the love of Photography!

Thanks for reading and Happy Shooting what ever your style maybe!

Well, at least you have attended a formal class in photography. I had zero.

As another passionate photographer, I try to learn from other forums, watch their tutorial videos and learn how to use my camera. I have visited just about every forums including Canon, Sony, Fuji and other international photography forums just to learn something and see what other people are posting so that I can use their image as a reference or as an inspiration to capture something similar.

Its not all about the camera equipment but the great deal comes from the vision behind the viewfinder.

Just take their opinion with a grain of salt. Sometimes its just camera envy.

I actually like watching Adoram TV. They provide great tutorials on a lot of subjects.

At least you are taking advantage of the information that is available that is awesome. now days there is so much information out there you don't really need a class unless you want to make it real on paper or go major. But you do have to seek it and use it. Not just tell people you are a pro and use the name when you know absolutely nothing. Most people don't even do that or read a book. My biggest peeve is when some one asks for help on a situation I do know something about and I give them the right information and they have the gull to yell at me and tell you that it was the subjects fault for moving and that I know nothing. Sadly to this day their photographs are still out of focus and blurred by camera shake or low shutter speeds. but what do I know right. LOL. I just wish that some people could be more receiving when it comes to useful information.
That is what I love about this site, they are helpful to every one not matter what speed you are. but we are all willing to listen and learn that is what makes it enjoyable.
I have learned some amazing things from this site that I wouldn't have learned other wise. You always have to be open to others opinion, that is what counts.

The old saying Misti...You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink...

I'm afraid there are a lot of people out there exactly like that.....

Being a professional at anything is just a perception. The majority of us on this site including me do this for ourselves and to share with each other. I would definitely identify more with artist than any other label. I shoot for me and anyone else who happens to enjoy my images. I appreciate the good qualities in everyone's images that posts on the site.

I don't think of myself as an artist.Rather I do artistic things with the tools available to me. They might take the form of the pictures I paint with words, the objects I create with wood or metal or the images I see that I try to mimic in a camera lens. I do these things for my own satisfaction and to be able to share them with others. If others appreciate my endeavors I did my "job" I guess.

Hope you don't mind if I add just a little bit more. Recently a friend of mine on Facebook paid me the best kind of compliment. It's been 40 years since we were in high school and at that time we were not real friends. Out of the clear blue he posts on my wall that one of the main reasons he stays on Facebook is so he can see my photos. That is what makes it all worthwhile.
