j2 third party lens problems

hello fellow nikonite(s) ... I have a j2. recently bought a third party lens: a 35mm movie lens with a f1.6 aperture and aperture and focusing adjustments. I bought it for my sony a3000 and with that it works fine...with it being excellent in low light. so .. I bought a c mount adapter for the nikon with the intention of using it on that camera. the adapter fits just fine on the j2 and with the movie lens attached there is absolutely no play. I changed the settings (exposure and focusing) to manual (in creative mode) but I just can't get the camera/lens to work AS I BELIEVE IT SHOULD. I cannot focus on anything (achieve a focus) beyond 6 feet and when taking a picture in good light of something within 6 feet AND with the aperture fully open I need (in order to get a good/exposed correctly picture) to set the shutter speed to what I believe to be an unusally low setting..namely around 1/100 of a second. I would appreciate a step by step guide on how to precisely set up using a manual lens. I've a strong feeling that I'm doing something wrong. anticipated thanks

stefan22 - I've tried off brand lens converters on my v1, with no success! First, if you can get it to work at all, it will be totally manual exposure. And I have found I just can't get a sharp focus. So for me, a lesson learned: don't do it!

I have no problem with the ability of the lens/camera (or me) to focus with the manual lens. the focus is superb and the lens IS very good.
nikon don't help in that there are no manual focusing aids but the lcd is pretty darn sharp and helps in the task (of manually focusing).
my problem is that I cannot achieve infinity (long distance) focus. I can work within 2-4 feet but beyond 4 feet everything remains blurred.
do you achieve a long focus ability with your combination? is it a flush fitting adapter (you use/used) or one that is 30+mm deep .. thereby placing the lens further away from the sensor? do you use a genuine nikon (manual) lens? anticipated thanks

Stefan22 - I can get focus to infinity. It's a Fotodiox brand adapter. And yes it's 30+ mm deep. I have tried it out on canon FD lenses.
