Thanks Jake - As of now my 2 girls are 2.5 years old and 6 months old, so its a lot of candid photography catching them in the act. Living in Orlando, we get down to the theme parks quite a bit, and the lighting during the day and at night is a challenge to say the least (battling the shadows during the day, and the low light performance of my D5000 leaves a little to be desired outdoors with the flash). With this in mind, its most portrait type photography that I focus on. However, with the age of the kids, its more like "trying to catch a kid looking somewhat towards the camera" photography.

Ultimately I'm looking to improve the low light performance, which I understand FX is much better at. My D5000 tends to be extremely grainy over 1600 ISO (but maybe I just haven't practiced enough - only been taking this seriously for about a year, but been shooting with D5000 for several years now).

With the price difference between the D7100 and D610, it might be worth trying the D7100 and see if that offers the improvements I'm looking for. If not, then I'll have to bite the bullet and go with the D610.

Seeing the QC of nikon as of late... what I would do is rent a d7100 and a d600 while waiting to see if the D610 has any problems. By the time you shoot a little with both, you should know if you want to stay with dx or move up to FX and have a handle on the performance evaluations of the d610

I can vouch 100% that the D610 has been released

I went to a photography show in Preston, Lancs (UK) today run by Wilkinson cameras and the Nikon stand has the D610 next to the D600. Both look very very similiar. I didn't pick them up to go over them, but why would Nikon UK make any attempt to hide the fact that they have released a model that hopefully fixes all the niggles that D600 owners have reported and are still having

Nice little show, with a lot of support from high street names such as Canon, Nikon, Sony,Pentax also lens companies such as Tamron and Sigma were there with plenty of lenses to look and use along with tripod companies as well. In fact you could have walked in and out loaded down with everything you would need to set up quite a nice setup with not much effort. Not forgetting the seminars and talks by a few well known pro's

The people on the stands seemed very well informed on what they were selling and more than happy to let people pick up cameras and expensive lenses to 'have a go'

I had a quick look at the D7000 with 18-105 macro lens as I mentioned I am looking for a D7000 body to upgrade from my D3100 and an interest in their macro lenses. More than happy to swap the lens and let me have a 'play' with over £1000 of gear without any issues or concerns

I don't know what you're questioning, if they did it or if the D800's sealing is superior? I can tell you that you can see the difference between the two (I have them both), though I can't attest to just how much better the sealing is on the D800 as I have not "tested" it. I would imagine that there's a difference in effectiveness due to the plastic vs. metal bodies, and it's likely only a minor improvement and more of a PR move to show Nikon is doing all that they can to eliminate dust entering the body.

As for white balance, there's always room for software enhancements. Look at Adobe!! ;)

If they did it is what I was saying. Its not listed on the Nikon site so I'm going off of the nikonrumors information there.

And yes. My D7k seems to have a WB issue where raw files are extremely cold. Still Dont know why , a minor annoyance though.

It's tough to word it into the spec sheet as any wording points to the fact that the D600 could have been "undersealed" (which I am in no way implying), but it's clearly worded in the press release under Robust Construction.

I think individuals are quick to claim problematic design flaws which they have absolutely no understanding of. I believe it is an excellent camera, the 610 or 600, and has ample features for the price point. I can't believe some people still complain about stuff like weather sealing, comparing it to say, a D4. I'm in no way saying you particularly are, just some comments I read elsewhere blow my mind.

I think BackdoorHippie commented about its weather sealing because I asked if it was different than the weather sealing on the D600. Just wondering if they improved on the weather sealing over the D600....

Doesn't matter to me as I will not shoot in rain anyway. If I did more shooting in wet conditions perhaps I would make sure it was fully sealed.

It looks like I may have a choice to make now that the D610 is coming out. I guess it might be decided by how much the D600's price drops. But the D610 sure sounds good if the price is at about $2000.00 for the body. Well I have time before I can get the money up anyway, so maybe I'll hear some feedback on the D610 before I'll need to decide! :D

Here in Aus where I bought my D300 {grey} they have it listed at $2155.00...He's about $700 cheaper then official dealers..

Saving money is a great way to sit on your hands to see if it has problems...

Greetings, Lance J from Colchester CT here.

I bought my D610 when they showed up at my local camera store on 10/17. I traded in a D7100 for the D610. So, I gave up a more advanced auto focus system to gain the full frame sensor. Other than the presumed fix for the sensor contamination of the D600, I think the only new features are an improved automatic White Balance algorithm and the "Quiet" continuous mode. At this point, I'm not sure I can tell the difference in automatic white balance performance from my D7100. But I can categorically say that the Quiet Continuous shooting mode is no quieter than the CH setting. It seems to slow down the mirror actuation, but it certainly doesn't change the noise output.

When all is said and done, I got what I was looking for... the full frame sensor in the latest most affordable Nikon body available. I've taken about 1000 images so far and am very happy with the results. Now, I'm waiting for Adobe to issue a LR 5 update so I can actually import and manipulate the D610 NEF files.
