It Really IS Worth It!

Well, I justy completed my 1st shoot with my new 70-200 2.8 VRII. I must say it is everything I expected and more. I don't have an fx body on hand so I used my D7100 on this hot, hazy day. Even handheld and heavy as it is I got some very crisp high quality shots. Even just kinda messing around I can tell this is gonna be a favorite lens for me. Here's just a quick example.

Up here in Maine I'm going to use it mostly for landscape, on a tripod, but handheld it was surprisingly comfortable. When I get the D810 I'm sure the fx format will be stunning.

The lens is superb! Nice job with the images--did you use a tripod? One of the images lists a shutter speed of 1/2 second at 70mm--or did you use VR? Congrats and enjoy. :)
Yes, I went out with a tripod at around 4AM! Yikes....Was a beautiful morning so I decided to test out the new lens....Can't wait to try it out on an FX body...Waiting for a D810 to arrive.

I don't use mine enough, but when I shoot people it's stunning. Also great for wildlife and landscape. My wife got one earlier in the year and loves it.

Wait a minute. Geoffc are you telling me both you and your wife have this lens. If so i'm jealous. My wife just doesn't get the photography thing. Loves the images but can't grasp the cost of the gear. Maybe if your wife called my.. Oh never mind. Lol.

Yes we have a lot of duplicate kit albeit some of hers is DX whereas I have FX . So yes we have a pair of Nikon 70-200 2.8 VRII lenses, Tamron 90mm and Nikon 105VR Macros, two D7100s (One each) as well as my D800. We also both have the stuff in the middle that gets us from ultrawide to the long end. This week we managed to get two Tamron 150-600 lenses which we had been waiting for for a while. I didn't have my name down for those but stumbled across two shops with one in each so I got them as they can take months to come in.

The problem is we tend to do our photography together and as such we tend to need the same lenses at the same time. In the past we tried the sharing things but it doesn't work for us as the additional glass is cheaper than a divorce.

At face value it may look like a bit excessive, but in reality it should be viewed a two photographers who individually have been fortunate enough to build a reasonable setup. I was actually thinking of getting all of the stuff out on the floor next week and taking a picture of it. It will be useful for insurance purposes and help to explain why my bank account is empty.
