Is this possible?

A friend of mine shoots with a Cannon and has his LCD display set to black and white when reviewing his photos.

Does anyone know if this is possible with a D600 and if so, how to do it?

I've had no luck finding an answer online or searching through the camera settings. Its very frustrating.

If you set your jpg to monochrome you will get that, but you would want to shoot raw or you will be stuck with a b&w jpg. I'm curious what he learns from the b&w.

I'm with Clayton. To do this on the D600, choose Monochrome in the Set Picture Control dialogue in the Shooting menu. As long as you're shooting RAW you'll still get a color image. When you go to process, however, the software you use may apply the camera profile you used and display it as black and white, so you can either override/ignore it on input, or change it in Camera RAW.

Thanks guys, i just tried it and it works. I also just viewed some shots i took in RAW into lightroom and they became colour photos after I finished importing them.

My friend said he has his screen in black and white so that he can better see the lighting in the photo without the distraction of colours. He's a pro photographer and has been spot on with advice in the past, so i thought i'd give it a go.
