I agree Vixen, they are an iconic spider, and they certainly have a presence.
I think he may have been a bit hot Mike. Its building up for more storms here so its getting hot and very humid.

love the shots Brad. colleague of mine and I restored a 71 lightning a couple of years ago, only problem was I could not ride the thing. only one mirror, no signal lights and all the controls on the wrong side!

Yeah, the controls on the BSA take some getting used to.

.We have lived here for 12 years now, the creek has averaged about one victim every 2 years in that time.
About 5 years ago a guy was having a few beers at one of my neighbours house, the creek was coming up, he decided to make a dash for home on his motorbike before it got too high. He got washed off the crossing and drowned.
The occupants of this car look to have kicked the windscreen out to escape. No one was around when I came across it, so I don't know the full story. I spotted it from my front gate when I took the rubbish bin out for collection tomorrow.
Edit- when I say one victim every 2 years, I mean a vehicle getting washed downstream, not a life lost each time. The guy on the motorbike is the only death.

The neighbour that lives across the creek from me, has his driveway crossing the creek about 100 meters upstream from where this car is situated. I assume it was coming or going from his house.There is also a rough crossing where I am standing to take this shot, but it is for 4WD only, that will take you to a deeper waterhole further downstream that is popular for swimming.

That's a lot of rain, in a short amount of time....how do the roads hold up?
Thats just a normal occurrence in the wet season around here. Its not unusual to get 300mm/12 inches in a day here at least once a year.
In February 2008 we got 450mm/18 inches in one day, in Mackay, about 30 km away, they got 600mm/24 inches that same day, there was pretty major flooding that day because the water couldn't get away quickly enough, a lot of houses were inundated.
Our roads need to be repaired regularly this time of year, its just a part of life when you live in the tropics

We were taking about our wet seasons earlier today, 3 years ago we had about 4.4 meters of rain for the year, that is more than 14 feet for those that still work in imperial measurementsJust like here
