Hey wev... how do you like that 16-300mm lens? Have you found any drawbacks? I'm wondering because I am really considering getting one.

I like it very much. For my use, needing a wide range of zoom for my daily work at the department, it has proved itself from one end to the other. As you can see, the macro is pretty impressive -- no match for my 90mm, especially in iffy light, but more than adequate for most times. Under good shooting conditions, full out at 300 gives excellent color and quite acceptable sharpness. It does have some focus issues/softness in low light and continuous focus doesn't always lock as well as I'd hope for, but the latter may be as much the 5200 as the lens. Its size and weight are not at all uncomfortable; it is an easy hand-held for walking about.

Sounds like that is a good lens for the price, and your shots are very nice with it. I read some reviews that said at 16 and the 300mm spots, there's some barreling, have you seen that to be the case? Over all I think I will definitely save for it. At least I will eliminate the need to swap out my 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses by having it.

Caught this minute insect on our basil bush. The sky is overcast with intermittent showers. The image is 1:1 and the insect must have been 4-5mm long.
