Insects with non macro lenses

I consider the result below par, but it was difficult to position the lens with the bee. Tokina 11-16

Great shots everyone, but just thinking about it. If these are taken with a 'Non Macro' lens then shouldn't they be in a wildlife thread instead of the macro thread? Just a thought...

An other discussion on what is macro?

Depends, but it seems here that the animals generally are central subject, even if it is done by cropping, the idea of filling the frame with an animal in detail seems to be macro.
On an other forum (local) I argued the other way. One person in the macro forum took vague pictures with a lot of context, not macro for me, but very good pictures.

I would agree these are more "macro like" pictures here, but it seems to serve the same interests?

One could debate that technically it is only macro if you shoot 1:1 or more but I personally don't think there's that much difference between macro shot with true macro lenses or non-macro lenses.

I can as easily take a 1:3 shot with a macro lens as I can with a non-macro lens. In the end, if I crop both shots to my liking, there's little to no difference between both. If there was no EXIF, most of us would never know what lens is used.

The more megapixels there are, the easier it becomes to shoot macro with non-macro lenses. For bugs in flight I personally prefer my 300mm instead of my macro.
