For those who need a no-frill DSLR, the D3300 is god sent. I also use
. Only one focusing point and that too the centre one most of the time.
. I have never found any occasion when I need the swivel scree. It is useful if you like doing low shots or shooting Video, I do neither.
. No need for WiFi or GPS
. I do not use bracketing

There are a few down sides though
. You have no Live View while tethered - Nikon does not support it in D3xxx series.
. Noise at ISO 100 and ISO 200 is same, so Nikon has crippled a bit, still 12.8EV is as good as 13+ for most of the cases.
. No metering with non-CPU lenses

In India the D3300 with kit 18-55 is selling for an all time low. Here are today's lowest prices from e-commerce sites

. D3100 body only : $370
. D3200 body only : $449
. D3300 with 18-55 : $527
. D5300 with 18-55 : $791
. D7100 body only : $1320

That makes the D3300 with the kit lense an excellent bargain. D5300 does not warrant an extra $250, in my opinion, the D7100 is a better option.

What makes the D3300 such a good buy, is its sensor and the weight. You get a no frills 24MP camera which weighs about 650g with lense and battery. You can carry the camera the whole day without much strain. Reminds me of the film SLR days.
