Currently I have a D5100 with 18-55, 55-300 and 35. I was thinking to upgrade to d7000. Is it good idea to do so or it is not much of a diffrence between those two. Btw how much is my d5100 with 18-55 worth in today's market. It is in great condition?

The D7000 has the auto focus motor...Lens like the 80-200mm F2.8 and the AF IF ED 300mm F4 will AF on it..

On Ebay a new D5100 with the 18-55mm $479

It would depend on what your goal is..

Gain of a D7000:
Ability to use the older Auto focus lens (with the screw af mechanism)
Ability to meter old glass
improved Weather Protection
Improved build quality

The sensors are the same, so,, the picture quality will not be improved. I own both the 5100 and 7000, and so unless you are wanting to use the older glass, I am not sure what you will gain over the very fine 5100.

as far as value:

Used 5100 -> around 400 or so dollars
18-55 lens -> around 80 dollars (but I would keep this lens for the 7000, very sharp and handy).

So,, again decide if the upgrade is worth it,.

Thanks guys. Great input. What fx would be good replacement for my d5100. I was looking at d600. Will any of my current lenses work with it?

I will admit I am not really familiar with the D600 at all but any of your DX lenses will vignette on an FX camera because their exit pupil image size is optimized to just cover the DX format. I know on my D700 you can switch to a DX crop, but your resolution drops to 5MP instead of 12.1. Not much use in that. I honestly don't know if the D600 does the same but I would assume it has something similar. If you are going to take the plunge and move to FX, you should start investing in FX lenses or you have not really gained much at all.

the d600 has a dx mode so you can use your old lenses. You will lose about half of the fx resolution when you do.
I got the d600 with both the kit lens and like it very much, i keep my 5100 as a backup. If on a tight budget get a d600 body
use one of your dx lens on it till you can get some fx glass.

Damian, there probably would be difference between the 5100 and the 7000, but, with the lenses you have you probably won't see any.

If you want to invest, get better lenses.

You say your D5100 is in excellent condition so why upgrade? Do you have a need for an upgrade or are you just getting itchy for a change?

If you are looking for a feature that your D5100 hasn't got, upgrade.
If you have lots of money, then upgrade.
If you are on a budget and upgrading with no known reason, what's the point?

Basically, do you need a new camera or do you just want one?

Only thing is doesn't have as easily accessible are say, custom presets for white balance and exposure that would allow you to quickly access them depending on your environment, but I find it more fun knowing those and just quickly dialing them in as needed. You also only get 1 SD slot, but I don't see much of a hindrance there. Lastly number of AF points and internal focus motor and FPS cam is capable shooting.
