Hey everyone, I’ve got a strange issue with my Nikon D5100. The mirror moves up and down very slowly, even when I set a high shutter speed. I’ve tried switching modes, shooting in bright light, etc., but nothing has worked.

The shutter speed itself seems fine—I tested it by taking a photo of a spinning fan at 1/4000s, and the image came out sharp. But the mirror still moves noticeably slow before and after the shot.

I also noticed that the mirror speed stays the same (but slow) down to about 1/60s. Once I go below that (like 1/30s), it gets even slower.

Bulb mode also works normally, so I don’t think the mirror is broken. Has anyone experienced this before or know how to fix it? Any help would be super appreciated!

I don't have any firsthand experience with that body, but to add to what @BF Hammer mentioned, what mode are you using? If you are using Quiet mode, most likely there is slower mirror movement to help quiet the mirror's sound. If you are in Quiet Mode, can you switch to a different one? Other than that, I can't think of any other possible solutions.
