Of course, I cannot comment with other manufacturers such as Sony, Fuji, Leica, and Canon to see how they would compare.

Yes, but had the rubber absorbed some of the impact perhaps the internals may have fared better?

Has anyone tried these? I see them for sale and they're not expensive. But I'm concerned about fit and finish. Do they fit like a speedo or boxer shorts?

I joined the D600 version of the Club on 12/12. 24-70 and SB-800. Sitting on top of my backpack/sling and knocked over by an employee.

Evidently the connector that attaches it to the camera is a factor and I have never had a problem with it or have it come loose and drop my camera.

Not in either case here. It was about how/where the operator set it down. Things do happen sometimes :(

I am referring to post #14 were it states this......

Cut and past from post #14
I joined the " I dropped my D800 club" I was doing some street photography in Downtown Dallas a few weeks back and the screw from my Black Rapid strap totally unscrewed while i was walking around, it took a 3 1/2 foot drop off the side of my hip and landed lens first on the concrete, thank god i had filter and lens hood on my 85.. Needless to say the camera still works fine, scared the crap outta me, but still works fin.

All I am saying is that I have never had a problem with my strap or connector and the connector certainly looks like a factor according to the above post.

Gotcha. Missed that one, was referring to the OP and the other drop :)

I check my fastener often, never found it loose a bit thankfully.

So it wasn't a failure of the screw attachment point. It was a failure of the screw-in attachment not being screwed in tight enough., right? :)

I feel a lot better setting my camera down now that it is flat on its base and not sitting at a weird angle because of the black rapid connector sticking out of the tripod socket. I am going to get an Optech sling for my other body (D7000) so I can compare it to the BR-7.
