I hope I made the right choice...

So I went and ordered the Nikon 85mm macro lens and now I am wondering if I should have ordered the 60mm macro as I read it is a better constructed lens and it is unbelievable in sharpness. The 85mm is also very sharp as well. Oh well. I think the extra working distance with the 85mm will be a plus.

I think you made the right choice, It's great for Dx. The 60 is good if you ever planned to go fx, but at that point, you would have wanted the 105 :). Enjoy!

Between the 60 & 85, without a doubt - the 85
It would've been a very different scenario if you had us compare the 85 & the 105 :)
Congrats on your new lens!

I would have gone for the MF 105mm macro. As such the use of AF in macro is limited and the extra reach of 105mm helps in isolating the subject. f2.8 helps.

AF is great if you need to get focus onto something fast, but I agree its not used 100% of the time. Also the 105 will help in extra reach and to not scare the subject (if buggy) and honestly I never use anything lower than f/11 in most of my macro shots, sure f/2.8 will Isolate the subject but you need some DOF, I think a Raynox DCR-250 could be added to this lens if the filter size is correct and then you can get even closer than 1:1.

Rich I have the 90mm with Raynox and that does me for now, my next lens will be a 200mm so that the bugs I cannot creep up on do not scatter.

The 105mm was not an option for me. My lens will be here tomorrow, just in time for the weekend!

You still made the right choice, 85mm appears as 127 on Dx which is plenty. The difference between 3.5 vs 2.8 at 85mm on Dx will not be much and you will probably need the DoF. Additionally, staying within your options is always a smart move!
