How to put a water mark on my D3100 Pics

I have seen on this forum that some people have a water mark on thier pictures, is that done on photo editing software is is there a way to do it on the D3100.:confused:

It's done with photo editing software as part of the post-processing process...

Many of the Nikon cameras allow the owner to embed a copyright notice in the EXIF data of each image. The D3100 is not one of those cameras...

Adobe's Lightroom software lets you create as many "watermark" templates (copyright notices) as you want and lets you selectively place the watermark on export/printing of images...

There are also software packages (some free) that let you add watermarks to images...

I beg to differ, as I have mine automatically included in the EXIF info of every shot... it wasn't a specific copyright line, but you can add it in the "image comment" section.

Just select "Input Comment", enter what you'd like to see (some put copyright name, website info, phone numbers, etc.), and click "Attach Comment". The only trick is, you've got to click "Done" (and I think "OK") after that.

To be honest, I haven't heard of anyone putting a watermark on by way of camera, but rather by post-processing. Are there cameras that will let you upload a watermark directly into the camera?

Copyright info in the EXIF data is quite common, but haven't heard of anyone doing something different yet. I live in a small world though, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Why do you want to put a watermark on your photos? Photos taken by you are copyrighted and cannot be used commercially by anyone without your permission. I think a watermark can ruin a photo by being a distraction. If you're that concerned about theft, only post small files. If you want to watermark to promote yourself, Lightroom has Watermark capability. And, it's a great workflow tool.

I don't need to put a water mark on my pictures i had just seen them on pictures people had posted on here and was really enquiring if you do it on the camera or editing software.

How do you do all that is it on any software? What is EXIF and how fo I use it :confused:

Your camera attaches the EXIF information to your files automatically, so there is now "using" or "not using it". As far as adding information to the comment section of your pics, it's in the menu options for your D3200. Browse through, and you should be able to spot it. Once information is entered there, your "comments" will be automatically attached to the EXIF info.

Most programs that display EXIF info will only show the basics (camera used, lens used, focal length, etc.), but you can dig deeper and see it all as needed.

EXIF is the information about the settings of the image, output with every digital image device. There is a menu item "Image Comment" under the "Setup Menu". Go to it

. Add what ever you want to be in that comment. Most of put a copy write notice in it. If there was an onscreen touch keyboard, this could have been used to comment on the image, but as it is a pain inputting, it is used just once in a while.

After reviewing a lot of watermark programs, I finally bought "Visual Watermark" for $30, and spent the whole of yesterday evening watermarking all my jpegs. The reason it took so long is that I had over 8000 jpegs spread across 451 direcories. If it had been one directory I think that the program would have watermarked the images in an hour or less.

Now all my images will have a watermark.
