I honestly only really flipped through my 600 man while I was waiting for the shutter replacement surgery. Else I pretty much go through menus and look at everything in a new toy. More fun to learn by poking at it than reading, unless its something very specific.

Life is more exciting without manuals...

I have often considered taking the labels off the tinned food in the pantry too - just to spice things up a bit...

Life's like a box of chocolates...

I've usually read the manual (downloaded pdf) before the gizmo arrives

Wow, thought i was the only one. Every vehicle, atv anything. I have to find not only a manual but ALL the service manuals available. Especially the factory ones. Before i do work on my vehicles i do much, much research... Everything usually goes pretty well. Also, LOVE the pdf reader on my phone. Gives me instant access to many of my manuals, lets me download them on the fly if need be.

I never do coz I can't UTFB :D Not only that I get lost....

1. check index to find the page the info I need is on
2. Go to page. It invariably directs me to another page or pages
3. Go to next page. No...that's not what I need
4. Check the OTHER page referenced. No that's not what I need, but hang on...,.I didn't know this. Read that page
5. Now I've forgotten what I really wanted to find out in the first place

I find it easier to go to YouTube :D

Yep, this is me as well. As soon as I have decided on what new gear I'm going to pull the trigger on, I download the manual and have the whole thing read well before I make the purchase.

I learn a little different than most. I usually play with every setting, not locking it in, but go through it on the camera and if I have questions I revert back to the book. I have a short attention span and if I am reading, my brain will wonder in a short time. I also watch a lot of videos and read various sites and such.

Now with that said, the first thing I do is download the pdf and put it on my mobile devices for reference in the field. I do buy other books that are formatted better than a manual, as they keep me engaged better.

If I want to take a nap then I pull out a manual and start reading and usually dont get past page 5 before I pass out. I'm more of a visual, hands on learner.

I'm with you on this one, books send me to sleep. Could be why I never did well at school. Had to leave and start using my hands before I found out I was not so dumb after all.

Manuals: read = no, reference = yes.

I'll download and browse PDF manuals when researching a product then keep a copy on my Android phone after purchase.

Currently I carry around the D3300 manual (PDF) and the Kindle version of Rob Sylvan's "Nikon D3300 From Snapshots to Great Shots".

I have his book for the D600, I like it if that helps. Seems week organized and easy to follow, also easy for reference.

I sent the PDF file out and had it printed and bound. It now serves 2 purposes.

1. I have a printed copy for reference
2. It is printed 8 1/2 X 11 and and is not in micro print. (Now I do not have to go hunting for my reading Glasses)

And I always made fun of the large print Readers Digest, its not so funny NOW !!!!:):)
