How do you store your gear?

I just got a Pelican 1600 case, figured all the money put in the camera and accessories, might as well get something that protects really well. I really don't mind it not being that portable, its only for toting it in the car and to and from places, I have the camera out and in my hands any other time. Ive since gotten a battery case for the loose batteries, and that large empty area is for a 70-200mm in the future!

Sorry for the bad picture, obviously my good camera was busy

No not really, I read nothing but good things about them, the way the latches work, the weather proofing and pressure equalization, and the way you shape the foam were all good features. It wasn't that much money either, especially considering the price of the items its protecting.

There are cheaper smaller ones out there, I wanted a thick one so that I can put the speedlights standing straight up, if it wasnt for them, I could of gotten one half as big, the camera is only using the first layer of foam,

@WhiteLight - I used to keep all my gear in a duffle bag and for the most part, it worked great.

But this failed miserably when it came to traveling. I went for the 1510 so that it would fit in the overhead compartment. I also went with the padded insert because I was worried that foam was too permanent and any change of gear would require a whole new foam set up. However, I think you can fit more items in the foam because you have complete control over their placement. All and all, these Pelican cases work great and do an excellent job protecting your gear. But they don't come cheap and they don't come light.

Did you get the lid organizer Dave? Also wondering how deep is it and does all your gear fit in it or would you have liked a larger one?

No, not all my gear at once. I can choose to pack all the lenses and carry the camera in my camera bag or leave a lens or two behind and add my camera. But my main concern was using the overhead bins and not being forced to check my gear when flying.
And no, I've not yet gotten the lid organizer but it's on the short list. Actually, my cool camera bag is starting to fray on the inside and the strings are getting stuck in the zipper so I think I may put a new bag on the list just above the organizer.
As far as depth, my 14-24mm and 24-70mm fit fine standing up but my 70-300mm needs to lay down if I keep the foam in the lid. Hopefully that gives you an idea of the depth.

My workhorse gear is always ready to go in a bag which is with me 90% of the time. The rest of the stuff is stowed away in a FStop Large ICU or organized on the shelf

I have a couple of bags, but the one I use most often is the Tamrac Velocity 9x backpack/sling. Only about 18" tall and can hold camera w/grip and 24-70 lens, plus 70-200 2.8, nifty fifty, 11-16 2.8 (or other small lens) and SB-800, plus a bunch of accessories in front pouch. Add on accessories include filter pouch and water bottle.
