How do you clean your lenses ?

Hi Nikonites :),

Curious as to how you all clean your lenses.

I saw some reviews on youtube about the lenspen it looked like a good piece of kit to own.

However the comments below did not follow the same logic as the reviewers (as always the case) haha.

Let us know also if you have any good or not so good experience with the lenspen

Thank You :D

I use Lenspen, also. They're reliable and worthwhile. I've not had any issues with them. There should be a few videos on Lenspen usage on YouTube.

Top rack in dishwasher. The jetdry rinse agent works wonders. ;)
I usually hit them with a rocket blower after using a lenspen. Then a damp, slightly damp, rag to clean the body. Once, I had to wet clean a lenses.

careful before someone believes you haha.

Lens pen looks neat, my only worry was the possibility of it damaging the lens (potentially).

Rocket blower first followed by a few gentle breaths to moisten the lens then followed by a good quality soft clean lens cloth.

I use a lenspen to brush the lens if needed. If a brush can't solve it, I have some cleaning product for lenses to wet clean it and fabric I get at an optician. I try to not apply too much pressure when using those.

Same here. Pec Pads and Eclipse liquid. The advantage of pec pads is that they are disposable, so don't carry any dirt particles from previous cleanings.

For everyday dusting a good soft brush is perfect.

I've never used lens pen. My biggest worry is that the cleaning pad will pick up more and more dirt and eventually might scratch the lens. Can anyone using it comment on this?

I have a lens pen and, giving credit where credit is due, it does work. Like you, though, I don't like the idea that it holds onto the crud from one cleaning to the next. I mean the crud has to go *somewhere*, right?

A fresh Pec Pad is spotless every time and I kind of like that.

Lens Pen. I keep one in every bag I own. Brush first, then Lens Pen. After using the Pen, when inserting it back into its cap, you have to twist it. That cleans the pad and deposits a fresh layer of micro carbon back on the head. Always use light pressure when using on a lens, starting from the outside of the lens and working around the edges to the inside, then out again. Works extremely well when used properly.
I also wet clean my lenses if they really need it, with micro fiber cloths I pick up from my optometrist.

Nothing wrong with using a Rocket Blower, too. :)

Another Lens Pen user here. Rocket blower, brush, then pen. If I need to wet clean, for any reason, I use the freebie microfiber cloths you can grab at just about any Lenscrafters or any other eyeglass/optometrist spot, and a quick spritz of the lens cleaning solution they've got.

I use the brush end of a Lenspen only... just to flick away any large dust particles... Zeiss makes lens wipes that you can get at any Optical place... I figure if Zeiss makes a wet towelette for their eye-glass lenses... it won't hurt the same basic coatings on my lenses... They're just barely damp, and NOT really "wet"...
