my goal here is to see what i'm photographing on my sony bravia TV, and then get exactly what's on the screen when i click the button.

i bought an AV cable (camera -> RCA), and i've got a camera->USB cable, but i can't seem to get anything to work. i tried every combination there is (i think) with the cables, so i'm not sure if i'm physically hooking it up wrong, or if i need to get into the camera's menu, or am i missing some software, or...?

the TV has 'video' inputs, and 'component' inputs.. neither work.

any ideas?

THANK YOU :)

I suggest that you find your camera manual sand read it. It will probably tell you how to do what you want.

Are you talking about recording what it on the TV or to take a picture and then display that picture on the TV?

I think the OP wants to use his/her TV as a giant liveview screen to take pictures, which I don't think you can do without software on a PC/tablet etc

exactly, i just want to take pictures. with a big display/preview screen. i've looked all around for software, but all that comes up is drivers/firmware for the camera itself.
i imagine the CD that came with it would have some kind of program on it that would do the trick... but i don't have it. i'm pretty sure it's possible to do what i want, i mean that's the whole purpose of this AV cable isn't it?

I think the purpose of the cable is to just VIEW the photos you have already taken. To show photos you have taken to family and friends.

Yes, the cables are for showing off your pictures not for taking pictures with.

However there is a thread here somewhere which does mention some software/app for a tablet which allows you to do this, but it won't let you do it on a big TV

it would help if we knew which tv (model number) and which coolpix (model number). Your tv manual and camera manual should have the information you need. You may need to go thru your computer.
