Wow, you folks all have some nice shots there!! I have experimented so very little (twice) using Photomatix Pro Trial. Just trying to learn how to do it now, nothing to post as the images were not that good... just wanted to see the results of the effect! Next will be to find a scene/image that it will do justice to.

Actually Pat, I just switched to the D600, need to update my profile. The D5100 is very capable of similar results as viewed on here you would not be able to tell the difference. Keep shooting, post some examples in the critique section and we can all help you, we all started out where you are.

Took this shot while eating Mexican food at a bar / restaurant in Red Lodge, Mt. and cooked it with a mild HDR sauce which brought out the wild colors in the glasses from the interior lights.
It is a picture of some Margarita glasses sitting on a shelf next to a picture of Bogart in front of a mirror reflecting more Bogart on the opposite wall.
Edit, I forgot to mention that the composition stinks but from our table this is what I saw as the best opportunity.
