I upgraded from my first digital camera, a Sony DSC-R1, in October last year, and am well pleased with my new D7100. Originally purchased with the Nikon DX 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, I've since added a used Nikon 70-210 mm AF-N f/4.0-5.6 lens and a new Samyang 8mm f3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fisheye CS Lens. I tend you shoot mainly wide, and am enjoying using the fisheye. I have my eyes on the Tokina 11-16mm and the Sigma 105mm Macro, they will follow later.

I used to use my fathers darkroom in the late 1950's through the '60's, and over the years have shot with 35mm, 120 and 5x4. In the latter years I would scan and print digitally. I use an Epson R2400 printer and a variety of tripods.

I'm looking forward to participating in the forums. Photo's at www.flickr.com/sbell

Welcome. I spent hours in the darkroom in the "old days" too. Now I sit in front of the computer for hours. :)

Thanks for the welcome.

Re my nikon choice. The Sony I had been using was DSC-R1, a bridge camera with a near APS-C size sensor. I was my first digital camera and it served me well, producing excellent images. Over the years I did very well in club competitions using it. Eventually the very slow RAW write speed, lack of vr and interchangeable lenses became a hinderance, hence the change. When looking for a replacement camera I had no ties to lenses, flash etc. First I chose the first lens I wanted, the Nikon 16-85, then the body. I only wish the D7100 had an articulated screen, it can be very useful, but the D5200/5300 spec didn't suit me. I may later invest in a second Nikon body with an articulated screen.

Welcome....you picked out a great camera! Just curious as I have a friend who loves Sony....what made you switch to Nikon? Thanks.
