Hi Bill and welcome aboard, I'm a bit north of you, quite a bit, LANCASHIRE, you have the sea i have the hills. I also shoot on a D600 ( same camera different number due to repairs via Nikon ). As you get into your new hobby you will probably be looking into other lenses, don't overlook some of the older AF lenses that require a built into camera focus motor, your camera has one whitch makes for some very cheap full frame lenses of high quality available. Get yourself onto YouTube, there's some great tutorials on the D600/610. Have fun is the main thing and experiment with things you will soon find your style.
